Bug Announcement: Twitter Compatibility Issues

UpdateThis issue is resolved in BrightAuthor versions 3.7.0.31 and later.

Twitter recently updated their API to version 1.1, which features a new endpoint authentication system for feeds. This authentication system is not fully compatible with the current version of BrightAuthor. As a result, you cannot add a Twitter feed to a new presentation, and feeds in currently active presentations are not working.

We are currently developing a fix for this issue. Since credentials are now required for accessing a Twitter feed, you will need to re-add Twitter feeds to presentations (and republish those presentations to your players) after installing the BrightAuthor version containing the fix.

The fix will be announced here on the Support Homepage once it is available. You will also be able to find it on the Software Downloads page.

Hi  We seem to have an issue with simple networking on the  HD1010W player using latest firmware and authoring software.

The BrightSign Player is not updating when using Simple Network. We are running a HFS, a

Web file host and open port number 7000 on the computer running HFS. The player can

download the content initially first time on the SD CARD, but after that it won't update

any more. We have updated the content several times. We have tested the simple network locally and also via 3G network. They all does the same thing.

    Could you advise us please.

    Thank you

    Hi Mark,

If you create a project in BA3.7.0.14, publish it to a webfolder, and configure the unit to pick updates from that folder, everything should work properly. However, when you try to update the media/content etc, it will fail with error:

D=<project name>.bml The requested URL returned error: 404

    This is a known issue.

If you exit BrightAuthor after updating the project, but before republishing, then re-enter BrightAuthor and perform the publish, all files are written correctly.

In the error case, the updated bml file is written, but it's incorrectly written to the file with the old sha1 file name. This is occurring because the sha1 for the file is cached in memory, and is not updated when the bpf file is modified.

The problem will be fixed in the upcoming BrightAuthor version.

Temporary solution: modify the project, go to File - Save <project name>, close BA. Open BA, click on Publish menu > Simple File Network, double click on the schedule grid, add previously saved project to schedule, publish schedule.

Hi, is the Twitter issue resolved yet. Looking at the previous post it seems to suggest that BA 3.7.0.31 is available for download but I can only see 3.5.0.24 on the downloads page?

Yes, it's resolved. Go to Software Downloads page, scroll down, download BA3.7.0.31, install it on your computer, and use it to publish a project with twitter feed.

Just checking in to see what the status of this problem is.  The Twitter v1.1 API has been on its own now since June 2013 when they retired the old API.

I can't see the Twitter plugin on current versions of BrightAuthor, and I'm wondering if I'm missing something.  Can you update this support article with the latest on the Twitter integration with BrightSign players?

    Thanks!

    Hi Joe,

This issue was fixed in 2013 with BA 3.7.0.31. Modern versions of BA still feature the Twitter state--remember that the Twitter state is only available with Ticker zones.

Thanks, so sorry I missed that!  I'll be sure to actually read the manual before assuming.

Thanks again for the quick reply.
