Supported touchscreens

Last Updated: September 21, 2017

Overview

BrightSign players are compatible with USB touchscreens that use standard HID drivers. A touchscreen with standard HID drivers will work with any operating system that has HID drivers installed--without requiring additional drivers from the manufacturer. Be careful: some manufacturers say they support HID but still use custom drivers that are incompatible with BrightSign players.

Important: Don't forget to download and run the Calibration Script for your touchscreen.

Other Support Technologies

The following list describes some other touchscreen technologies that are compatible with BrightSign players. There may be other compatible touchscreens that are not listed here, but we cannot guarantee them.

If you are testing a touchscreen for compatibility with BrightSign players, make sure to use the most recent version of firmware. Visit the Software Downloads page to get the most up-to-date firmware.

3M

We support 3M DST & Capacitive touch screens using both HID and custom drivers. Touch screen providers that use 3M technology include NEC, Planar, Horizon Displays, Samsung, Sharp, IBM, LG, Asus, Dell, and Sanyo.

ELO

We support many Elo touch technologies, including IntelliTouch, which is the most commonly used Elo touch technology. See this article for more details.

The following manufacturers use Elo: Luvox, NEC, Planar, HP, and Sanyo.

Note: We do not support APR – Acoustic Pulse Recognition. Most models are available using different touch technologies, even if some are not listed as part numbers on Elo's website.

I-TECH

BrightSign players should be compatible with any touchscreen that uses the eGalax driver. Touchscreen providers using eGalax include I-TECH NEC, Dell, and Planar.

NEC

Supported models include the OVL-V463 (overlay) and MultiSync V462 TM. Before you use the MultiSync V462 TM touchscreen with a BrightSign player, you must connect it to a Windows PC and run the "Lumio Crystal Touch Manager" application. Use the following settings: Linux OS, "Legacy HID Support" unchecked, and more than 1 touch.

PQLabs

BrightSign players support newer PQ Labs touch controllers that are HID compatible. However, many older PQ Labs controllers use non-HID drivers and do not work with BrightSign players.

RNDPLUS

BrightSign players are compatible with touchscreens that use the RNDPLUS touch controller. TSItouch overlays and some Philips screens use the RNDPLUS controller for touch overlays. Note that the controller must be set to stylus mode to work with BrightSign players.

Finding the USB Controller ID

If you’re unsure what touch controller your touchscreen model uses, check this list first. If it is not listed there, we can help you find the controller: You'll need to locate the USB VID:PID for the screen and forward it to support@brightsign.biz. You can normally find this information by connecting the touch screen to a Windows computer and checking its properties in the Device Manager. The touch screen will normally be listed under Mouse and other pointing devices or under Human Interface Devices.

  1. Right-Click on the touch controller and choose Properties.
  2. Click on the Details tab in the Properties window.
  3. Select either Hardware ID or Device Instance ID.

For example: USB\VID_0EEF&PID_0001\5&262929C3&0&2

After reading through this I was curious about the compatibility of my brightsign player and my elo touch monitor. I have a 4243L Elo Touchmonitor and a XD1032 Brightsign player and can't get my presentation to play on my monitor. It will play my presentation but not allow touch interaction with the presentation thus making it a static page. I was curious if this was due to compatibility issues or if I simply did not have everything set up properly.

We have a 5501LT at a client location that we'll be getting back to our showroom in November.   It will be a couple weeks, but I can run down and test it with an LS422 at the end of August.

    Cheers,
    Monica

Just tried 4.7.122 on an XD1020 with two different ELO Intellitouch Plus monitors, and it didn't seem to work at all. It was an existing project authored in 3.5.0.31 of BrightAuthor - should that make any difference?

IT seems there are still some issues with the ELO 2515-07 controllers. As you can see from the post above, 3 days ago the thing worked. The next day when I rebooted everything the touch monitor wasn't working any more. I retried to run the calibration script which again started to behave in a strange way: when I touch the cross it loops through three of the images (top left, top right, bottom right; bottom left is never displayed) a couple of times and then stops on one of the images. If I touch the new cross repeats the looping. I modified the calibration script a bit to see what is going on and noticed that false positives are registered. I am attaching the modified script, the cal_log.html the script produced and the console.log that was captured with a terminal. There were two touches of the screen: one at the 6th calibration loop in the top right corner and one at the 12th calibration loop in lower right corner. The initial captured state (state 0) was registered without a touch.Regarding the double mouseup event registered it seems, that it is the monitor who registers a double mouseup event, as the same happens when the monitor is attached to a windows PC with the test page running in chrome.Side note, in the modified script I included some timing so the messages in the console can be linked to the ones in the cal_log. I wanted to use the roDateTime with the ToIsoString method, but I was unable to make it work. It seems that I can't use any method of the roDateTime object (GetDayOfWeek, GetDay, GetMonth, etc) as they all return 0. I used it like this:

    time=CreateObject('roDateTime")

    print time.GetDayOfWeek()

Am I using it in a wrong way?

There are two scripts you can run in the attached zip file. Both will generate a log file on your sd card you can send us. We've recently found two intellitouch plus screens that send malformed data. The log will tell us if your screen has the same ID as the problem one we found. We just need to add this ID to our firmware as one needing tje special workaround that's already in place.

Both of the screens below use the same 2515 touchcontroller from elo. We're currently getting an updated list of IDs from elo that are known to send incorrectly formatted data.

For example, this screen is fine:

    P: Vendor=04e7 ProdID=0022 Rev= 1.16
    S: Manufacturer=Elo TouchSystems

But, this one needs to have its ID added for a workaround:

    P: Vendor=04e7 ProdID=0126 Rev= 1.22
    S: Manufacturer=Elo TouchSystems

Elo 5500L -- is that a compatible touchscreen?  It uses Intellitouch.  Part No. E053414

If not, is there a supported touchscreen in the 60-inch range? (55-70 inches)

We can confirm IR and PCAP ELO screens work:

    3202L, 4202L, 4602L

    5501LT also works fine

We can confirm these Planar Series work:

    PCT2235, PCT2265, PCT2485, PCT2785

Please note... there was a Firmware upgrade (6.1.76) that did not recognize touch on the Planar models. Be sure to use 6.0.51 or the most current firmware (Production).

Multi-touch is only available on XD/XT models for playing back HTML5 content. I am not aware of any gesture support built into BrightAuthor presentation inputs yet.

Regarding the PS5561T, I haven't seen any customer reports on that touchscreen. I don't know which controller that touchscreen uses. Do you have that screen in your possession?

The calibration script failed, it wouldn't do anything. The TouchCapture script, on the other hand, reported this:

    P: Vendor=04e7 ProdID=0126 Rev= 1.22
    S: Manufacturer=Elo TouchSystems
S: Product=Elo TouchSystems 2515 iTouch Plus USB Touchmonitor

So it would seem it's got the same issue as you noted above. Attached is the HTML file. So it looks like that's the issue.

Anyone have a chance to try the new ELO monitors? We're looking at the 4202L for a client. They used to be our go-to for this kind of project, but not sure about the new touch tech. Thanks.

Has the Samsung CY-TM40LBC - 40” Touch Overlay been tried and approved?

If not we need a recommendation for the Samsung ME40C. The PQ Labs 40" overlay failed.

I'm having the same problem (possibly eith the same monitor.

To me, the cal sctipt runs, but the calibration does not do anything. The cross is displayed but I can not click it. After the timeout, the "Calibration complete." text is displayed. (Maybe you could add a fix, that tells calibration error to the user, when the timeout finishes, but the calibration is not done).

I'm attaching the lig files. I would be really grateful if you could send to me the "fix" aswell, so I can go on with the development. We won't be sending it to the user yet (deadline is over one month), but I would really need the development to go on.

    Thank you.

If you are looking for a 40" we have had good luck with the ELO 4200L just make sure it's the IntelliTouch model. They work great and look good to boot. They are a bit bulky though, but decent display and touchscreen is fast and works well.

Roni, we're looking into a problem with intellitouch plus units using controller 2515, product id 0126. This version of the 2515 appears to not be HID. We're working with Elo to add support for it.  I've added your log for our developers to review.  I've also updated the information in the faq above with new info from elo about which screen uses the problem 2515 controller, and which don't.  2515-07, the controller you have, is being phased out by elo, replaced by 2521, which is also HID. I'll update here once a new firmware is available that fixes the issue.

I just tested it and it dont work right.

When i touch screen on the left the pointing is on the right if i touch it on the right its on the left.

Try to calibrate it with the update.rok files but its not the same as describes in calibration manual. I dont see any "X" on the screen corners i only can see  "+" in white circle located in  top left corner.  After about 60 seconds massage on the screen saying "calibration process is complete"  but the touch screen still don't work right.

Im testing on HD1010W with the beta firmware. Touch screen connected via USB 2.0 cabele

    What els can i try?
