BrightAuthor fails to upload one or more files to BrightSign Network Account

Last Updated: October 27, 2015

Uploads can fail for a variety of reasons. There might be temporary internet connectivity issues, file problems, or permissions issues. Sometimes, just trying again will resolve the problem. If that doesn't work, do the following:

  • Verify that none of the files used in your project have been moved or renamed.
  • Test if you have general Internet connectivity on that computer.
  • Try logging into your BSN account from another computer.
  • Download the BSN Connectivity Checker from the Developer Resources and Utilities page. Use it to verify that you can access all parts of the BrightSign Network from your network location.
  • Verify the following ports and servers aren't blocked on your network:
    1. services.brightsignnetwork.com:80
    2. fileservices.brightsignnetwork.com:9990
    3. fileservices.brightsignnetwork.com:9991
    4. fileservices.brightsignnetwork.com:9992
    5. fileservices.brightsignnetwork.com:9993
    6. fileservices.brightsignnetwork.com:9994
    7. bsnm.s3.amazonaws.com:80
  • Locate the eventlog.txt file on your computer after the upload failure occurs, and send the log to support@brightsign.biz. If you quit BrightAuthor, don’t re-open it before copying the log (each time BrightAuthor opens, the log is overwritten).

The eventlog.txt can be found in the following locations. You may need to set your computer to show hidden files and folders to find this folder.

Windows Vista

C:\Users\[name of your user]\AppData\Local\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\[current BA version]

Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\[name of your user]\Local Settings\Application Data\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\[current BA version]

Windows 7

C:\Users\[name of your user]\AppData\Local\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\[current BA version]

I am trying to upload a presentation to the network in the same way I always have i.e. same preferences, proxy, file paths etc. However it won't upload because I'm getting a message which reads:

The HTML5 site BrightSignApplicationServer already exists on the server. Do you want to overwrite the existing site on the server or cancel the upload?

Even if I choose to overwrite I then get an error message to say the upload has been unsuccessful.

Help? I've never had this issue in the past, never had the message re HTML5 site.

Same type of problem, over and over again the last few days. Updated to most current version of BrightAuthor. This is really starting to be a pain.

If you have the option, try uploading a do-nothing HTML5 presentation from another location (say your home). I did that, the upload completed and the issue seems to have resolved.

So, never let it be said I don't admit it when I'm wrong. (I don't admit it, I just don't want anyone saying I don't admit it.)

After I completed one upload saying yes to the BrightSignApplicationServer I was able to upload presentations from inside our network and the HTML BrightSignApplicationServer dialog did not reappear. I have a question into support to confirm, but this seems to be a one time operation (until the files change again).

Same issue. Happens on BrightAuthor 4.6, but not if I use the down level version.

Also, the upload is hanging on the file vendor.93fc20a3.js, 323 KB. This eventually causes a timeout waiting for BS network servers to respond.

While this file is not in the abstract very big, compared to everything else in the BrightSignApplicationServer directory it is huge. BD support says this error is due to a connectivity issue, but I think the issue must be on their side (I was at least partially wrong on this as the upload worked perfectly from a computer outside our network).

Also, the error log shows that something in the transfer system is timing out waiting for a reply.
