HD223 - No output using HDMI to VGA adapter

I am using a HD223 and I am trying to connect a monitor which accepts a VGA input. I have a HDMI to VGA adapter which works when I test it using a laptop but when connected to the HD223 there is no output to the monitor.

Am I missing something obvious or is this not possible?

Does your adapter support that resolution and frame rate?  Does the adapter output a resolution and frame rate supported by the display?

How does the adapter get power?  If it is one of those that tries to use the HDMI cable EDID line power, those are not very reliable.

The adapter supports the resolution but I'm not sure on the frame rate. I get an output from the adapter using a laptop as my media source so it is outputting something supported by the monitor.

It gets power from the HDMI. Could this be the issue?

This is the adapter I'm currently using but i have these on order too to test.

The majority of HDMI to VGA adapters no longer work with the current generation of players. I raised this with support@brightsign.biz shortly after they were released. They may or may not have tested some to find one that works...

Thanks Shaun. I've emailed the support email to see if they know of a solution.

I am not a fan of HDMI to VGA...or even the words VGA.

But just a few days ago we had one of these and it was intermittent while using the HDMI cable EDID 5VDC.  It worked better when we attached its power supply.

Allen I don't suppose you could share a link to the product you've used?

I'm forced to use VGA unfortunately as the small monitor I'm using only has a VGA input.

    Atlona AT-HD420

But I have not tested it beyond some playing around.

    Hi,

i have the same problem. I have a HDMI to VGA convertor (without supply). It's working with my laptop but not with the brightsign...

Could someone confirm that it's better working with a 5V DC external power supply?

Do you have some tested convertor reference ?  Does the Atlona AT-HD420 is well working ?

    Thank you !

Pascal I got it working once I connected a microUSB charger to the adapter.

The AT-HD420 does work with new new model when powered separately as outlined previously. VGA does indeed suck but there are some instances where it is the only available option. If you can use Display port both of these work a treat with the Brightsign units https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JQORLCG/ref=od_aui_detailpages01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0144NS4Z6/ref=od_aui_detailpages01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Nice crisp image and handy if you are using newer ELO based touchscreens that have all but dropped DVI and HDMI sockets.

    Thanks !

Shaun, thank you but I can't use display port because my displays are old and only analog compatible.

In the chance someone finds this thread again, here is what I have found to work..

This allowed me to quickly convert the HDMI and the cable allows me to power the adapter from the BrightSign itself via the USB port on a XD1034, or an external power adapter for the Standard I/O models.
