Overlay still images onto live video feed

I've started working with brightsign players recently so my knowledge pool isn't very deep. Here is what I'm currently trying to accomplish. I would like to take a live video feed of a customer and overlay a still image onto the video feed. For example, a Toyota would appear next to the customer and allow them to see the composited result on a large tv. I know that I can show and hide zones with zone messaging and have been able to accomplish this using video and images without any problem. I'm having a hard time making it work with live video. I currently am testing using an XD1033 and have tried using an html video feed but the image does not display transparency over the website. Would this be possible using the XT1143 which has both an HDMI input and output? Use the live video coming in through a camera with an hdmi output, and use zone messaging to overlay the appropriate zone, then use the hdmi out to feed the completed image to a large screen?

I just tested with the XT1143, and am able to place a transparent png over live video from HDMI input.

What do you mean by "hard time"? What is the result that you are seeing?

Please share a picture of the screen

I'm actually testing on an XD1033 and was hoping it would work on the XT1143. The way I'm attempting to make it work now is by using a live feed of a webcam through the HTML5 command. The PNG takes over the screen instead of acting like an overlay. My plan was to try using an XT1143 and a live camera coming in through the HDMI in, then use the HDMI to display the live video with a png overlaying it, creating an effect as if the customer was standing next to a certain car. The final version of the project would be to create a station where a customer can walk up, select a vehicle, and be shown the vehicle next to them on a live display. Basically a poor man's augmented reality.

Your idea should work with the XT1143.

How is our png taking over the screen? Is its transparency being ignored?

You could post a link to your png, so I can test it here.

Wonderful. Thanks so much for the help. So I would begin with only the live feed. Then upon selection of a certain item from a usb connected touch interface, it would overlay the desired png in a correct location. It would then allow customers to select a different model, which would then replace the current model. I'm thinking of doing this with zones and the hide/show zone command. I attached a rough draft of the desired effect along with two sample png images with transparent backgrounds. Again, i'm pretty new at working with these devices so I really appreciate the assistance.

Please clarify: Is any of the visuals going to be live video?

What I'm seeing here are three layers:

    1. Background is the virtual showroom

    2. Car

    3. Customer

Is the customer's image going to be a live video?

Yes, layers 1 and 3 are actually live video. So we will have live video of the customer in the showroom, then the selected car as an overlay on the live video.

By live video, I mean, a camera signal.

Are both layers 1 and 3 coming from a camera?

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. Yes ,layers 1 and 3 are both coming from a live camera. Layer 2 will be overlayed depending on the image selected by the customer.

Those would need to be two cameras, if you want the customer's image be in front of the car. Correct?

Is the plan to show live videos with both HTML and HDMI input?

It wouldn't necessarily need to be in front of the car. The plan is to have a spot on the floor which tells customers where to stand and the car could appear next to them. The live feed would only come in through the hdmi input.

Seems like you have all the necessary building blocks.

Do you still need any help?

No that was exactly what I needed now that I know that the XT1143 will handle that. Thanks so very much.
