Dynamic Playlist

What would cause a Dynamic Playlist to just not show up on the presentation?  I've confirmed that the images are RGB and the correct size.  Also that they are set within the playlist with a default 0:15 timeout between.  It's two slides for testing and they just refuse to show up.

Playback on an XD1230 with current firmware 6.1.76.

Thanks!

Did you set validity dates that are wrong...maybe?

I'll check.  Not sure what that would entail on a BrightSign Network dynamic playlist but we can poke around.

Just guessing but it is one thing to check.

Look at the Edit tab - select the dynamic playlist in question and select the Edit button below it.  Next select the content item in the playlist and look to the right side and there is a clock icon.  That is where you set or eliminate the validity time/date.

What sort of slides?  Maybe the resolution or color depth or something is not correct?

    In BrightAuthor:

Data Feed setup in BrightAuthor presentation properties:

    • MRSS Feed
    • Plugin Script (none)
    • Optimize feed updates (use HEAD calls) - enabled
    • Automatically generate User Variables from Data feed - disabled

Validate - returns with "accessed successfully"

    On BrightSign Network WebUI:

    • No validity dates set on any of the slides (currently two for testing)

    Image Files:

    • Tried JPG (.jpg) @ 1548x880px @ 72DPI - RGB 8-bit
    • Tried PNG (.png) same resolution - 24-bit

Could you post screenshots of your settings?

    Most certainly... see attached.

I'm not seeing anything unusual in the screenshots.

    Have you figured it out?

Do you have spaces in the images file names?

No spaces in the file names at all.  It's so frustrating!

Every other device on this system is playing fine with the dynamic playlist, but this particular XD1230 does not.  It is a different firmware version.  Perhaps there is a bug.

The XD1230 is a capable player, although somewhat seasoned, in the sense of the latest firmware that is available for it. I learned that squeezing more life from aging technology, as a hidden price tag, mostly paid by spending one's time...

The player's functionality is a combination of firmware, and the autorun file, provided by BrightAuthor.

    Are you using BA 4.6.0.36?

BTW, is that a BSN Dynamic Playlist? You could also try Live Media Feed, which I've successfully used with XDs of that era.

Yes, it's a BSN Dynamic Playlist.

    BrightAuthor 4.6.0.14

I can update to .36 if we need to.  It's worth a shot.  :o)

    Worth a shot.

What are the models that are working?

I vaguely remember that there was a time when the XD needed a feed parser to make it play media from feeds...

You may have better luck with BSN Live Media Feeds instead of Dynamic Playlist, in the context of the older XD.

Still XD1230s... from the same batch, same age.  Only difference is the firmware version.  We are using the "Media RSS Feed" item in the zone and linking to the BSN playlist.

Republished with .36 and the same result.  The playlist just doesn't want to play.  I may crack the presentation open in an XML editor to see if there is something strange that happened in that zone.

If the firmware is different, then how about updating the firmware?
You could easily do that as you publish from BA, or from the BSN web UI.

Sometimes, a player needs to be setup again to bring it back to life. Factory reset helps too.
If your SD card is too small to hold everything that is publish at a given moment, it would never play.
Examining the Current Log, can help understanding what is going on. Do you have access via Diagnostics Web Server?
In BSN you could enable diagnostics logging, but that would take some time to become available.

I couldn't get images to showup in my dynamic playlists.  Ends up being the images had too high of resolution. I'd resize your images to the resolution of your player.

    Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the idea.  I did confirm that the images were the correct resolution.  We too have experienced clients attempting images with too high of a resolution (DPI as well as pixel size).

As it turned out, there was an RSS feed that wasn't validating that was in the list and it disrupted the dynamic playlist feed.

    Cheers,
    Monica
