Countdown timer?

Am I missing something that should be obvious?  Is there a way to display a countdown timer?  It does look that it's easy enough to trigger events based on set times.  What I'm looking for is the ability to change to a "Event starts in M:SS" layout with a countdown timer before the start of sessions.  Once the session starts, the normal content will resume.  It looks like BrightSign can do this, but I'm nervous because I have done some extensive searching to see if can find examples of anyone doing this and I don't see it.  Thanks!

I'm not sure I fully understand what you're trying to do. We don't have a countdown timer object yet, but that feature has been requested. Maybe if you could send a project example or a more detailed description of what you're trying to do.

We have done a countdown timer for a customer of ours in Switzerland, and maybe it can be added to your project as well. But, it was a countdown of days, hours, etc, to a specific date and time. Do you have a mockup of what this looks like or should look like?

I believe that I might have something that would work for you but it has only been tested on 3.2.0.11.

With this project the countdown is display above any video file that contains the string COUNT in its name.

See the attachment for the custom script.

    Ok,

So if you were using BA 3.2.x with this custom autorun you would need to create an interactive BA project (BA 3.2.0.12). In this interactive project you would probably have multiple states. One of these states would need to be named “count” . Every time that count state is displayed the Countdown would also be displayed.

As part of the project you need to add a font of your choice.  The font (.ttf file) should be renamed  to “brownregular.ttf.jpg” and added to the interactive playlist but not connected to any other states (i.e. make sure that no transition events are entering/exiting the “brownregular.ttf.jpg”  state ).

In the custom autorun look for the line that contains the following:

m.targetdate$="20120923T090000,0" . You will need to modify this value to count to your target date and time.

    Then look for the line:

“CountRec=CreateObject("roRectangle", 380, 750, 1160, 250)”. You will need to adjust the values in this line to adjust the positioning of countdown on screen.

Once you’ve made those changes in the custom autorun file and you’ve completed your BA project playlist you will need to add this custom autorun to your BA project. To do so, go to  File > Presentation Properties > Autorun > Select custom Autorun and browse to where the customised autorun is located then click OK.

    Finally publish your project.

As I mentioned before this custom autorun was written for BA 3.2.0.11 and is likely to work with BA 3.2.0.12. However if you intend to use BA 3.5.x then this script would need to be ported to this new version of the script.

I am running BA 3.5 so this might be a little to much for a beginner with a dead line of next Monday to get working correctly.  I have some spares coming and once I get a monitor and player installed in my office I will start to tackle this.  Thanks for the info I will use it once I have time to work on this.  Thanks again.

one last thing can I just cut and paste this part of the script into the new 3.5 or is it much harder then that?

It is much harder than just copy-paste.

Hey there, just found this thread and have a question. I would like to use this countdown with a BrightSign Box 1020, and Version 3.8.0.30. Can you give me a workaround?

    Thanks.

Hi, your Countdown Script is very helpful and it works well. But i have a question regarding the frequency of the project. Since i have to author it in 3.0.2.12, there is no possibility for choosing the resolution i need, which is 1024x768x60.

The HDMI Signal will not be display on my LED wall in the resolution 1024x768x75. Is there a way i can change the frequency to 60 somewhere in the script?

The second question is regarding the countdown string. Where do i change the script to display the time without spaces between days, hours, minutes..?

    Thanks for answering soon.

It would be very helpful to know if there is a any possibility to change the resolution 1024x768 to 60Hz in the BA 3.0.2.12 Presentation or in the autorun File.

Or is there a version of this script for a newer BrightAuthor?

Your published brightuathor 3.2 playlist should exist on the card as an autoplay**.xml file. You can edit that to change the resolution that's set.

    Hi,

From the below link you will be able to download a template presentation that includes the Countdown plugin.

    http://brightsignnetwork.com/download/Romeo/CountdownPlugin_BA_4_1_0_10.zip

With this version of the plugin, the countdown will be displayed in the middle of the screen whatever the selected BrightAuthor project resolution/video mode.

In order to manually adjust the position of the countdown on screen, go to File > Presentation Properties > Variables > enter the position in pixel for the X and Y coordinates by entering the relevant values for "PositionX" and "PositionY".

For example to display the Countdown at the bottom of your screen (centred) whilst driving the display at 1280x720, you would enter for PositionX "128" and for PositionY "576".

You will also find a "TargetDate" variable under the variables tab. in order to adjust the date/time the countdown is counting down to, please modify the default string "20161223T090000,0" to your target date.

The target date default value can be broken down as follows:

    2016 -  Year

    12 - Month

    23 - Day

    090000 - Time (HH:MM:SS)

Thank you very much for the adivce and the new Script. We already customized the older version in many ways and it is working pretty well. And we are kind of in a hurry to get the project finished...

We still have on important thing we can not figure out by ourselves:

    • In between the Numbers we added colons which should be blinking once a second. Only the colons should blink, the numbers should not. Is this possible? And if yes how?

    Thanks for your support.

This is in regards to the template, what else needs to be configured? In a preview, we're just getting a black screen after modifying the date and time. We are running an HD220.

    Hi,

Has anyone had success running multiple countdown timers in the same presentation?

I have a requirement to run 4 x countdown timers on screen simultaneously and when I try to run multiple edited versions of the plugin I crash the player.

Any advice on how to achieve this would be great!

    Thanks, Michael

is there any way I can change the size of the countdown? Even when I position it to a corner, the numbers go off screen. I tried tweaking the code of the plugin without much luck.

    Hi guys,

I downloaded and installed the script but I'm only seeing a black screen in the preview - what am I doing wrong? I'm on version 4.7.2.8

    Thank you!

Dennis - Open the files in a text editor like Notepad, etc and look for Target date in the code - modify there, then import in your display.

I was looking for a countdown to Christmas day and this should work.  I'd also like to eventually mod the code for countdown to show (a daily routine).
