Picture List Cycle

I am working on a project that requires a playlist that goes in-between live text and a list of pictures that selects the next one in the list each time it is played.  I currently have it working but the process is not really something that would be easy to train the end user on.  In my playlist I have the live text that transitions to an image list and then back to the live text after 7 seconds.  The image list is populated from a data feed that I set up on BSN.  The data i used to fill this data feed came from a dynamic playlist that I setup on BSN and just copied each image file link from the RSS feed.  The ideal situation I would like is to be able to have the customer load files to a dynamic playlist on BSN and be able to create an interactive playlist in BrightAuthor that accomplishes my original goal.

    Hi Gary,

If the Image List object supports the "populate from Dynamic Playlist" option, this will resolve your issue?

Yes that would but it does not seem like that is currently possible since when you are setting up a data feed Content for Image List is grayed out when you have feed specification set to Dynamic Playlist.

That's true. Future BrightAuthor version 4.4 will allow use of Live Data Feed, Live Media Feed, Dynamic Playlist for Content for Media List and Play File states.

Current BrightAuthor versions do not support this feature, but you can write a parser and use it to playback images from a Dynamic Playlist in the Image List object. I'm attaching sample parser below. When you add the parser to a presentation, you should specify the parser function name "ParseDynplaylist" without quotes. This parser was created for BrightAuthor version 4.1.0.10 only. It will not work with other BrightAuthor versions.

    1. Add your feed via Presentation properties > Data feed > enter the feed name > URL > Select content for Image List.
    2. Browse to the plugin, then for the parser function Name enter "ParseDynplaylist".

I actually ran into another problem.  If I publish the playlist directly to the player over the network it works fine but when I tried to publish it to BSN and schedule it to play it causes the playlist to crash.  When I looked closer I realized that I am not running BrightAuthor 4.1.0.10 but 4.1.1.17.  Is this the cause of the problem or is there something else?

You should use this parser with BrightAuthor 4.1.0.10. I'm attaching version 4.1.0.10. Unzip and double-click on BrightAuthor.exe file.

Still the same result even when I used version 4.1.0.10.  I attached a copy of what I am using.

What BrightSign model and what firmware version are you testing this on? Follow these steps:

    1. Go to www.brightsignnetwork.com and login to your account.

    2. Click Create > Dynamic Playlist > create a Dynamic Playlist with a couple images. After a Dynamic Playlist is created, click Save button.

    3. On the Create > Dynamic Playlist page find a Dynamic Playlist that you created in step 2, and press on "properties". Copy the URL.

    4. Open BrightAuthor version 4.1.0.10. Create a new presentation (File > New Presentation).

    5. In BrightAuthor click on File > Presentation Properties > Data Feeds > Add Data Feed, specify a Feed Name, enter the URL to the Dynamic Playlist (copied in step 3). Other settings should match what is highlighted on the below snapshot.

    6. Add Image List object to presentation, select "Populate from Data Feed" option.

    7. Publish presentation.

I am using a XD232 with firmware version 6.0.25.  I went through the instructions you provided which were similar to what I originally did (I didn't add the live text slide that I originally had in mine)  with the same result that it causes an error when you try to load it to the BSN.

Please attach the presentation file (.bpf file) that you uploaded to BSN.

This project was created in BrightAuthor version 4.1.1.17.

The parser was created for BrightAuthor version 4.1.0.10 only. It will not work with other BrightAuthor versions.

Sorry I had a couple different versions that I had been using for testing so I must have garbed the wrong one.  To make sure I started a presentation from scratch in version 4.1.0.10 which produced the same result as the other one.  I have attached this new file.

Try to delete Live Text state and leave only Image List state in presentation. Then go to File > Presentation Properties > Data Feeds and delete "Event Feed". Save the presentation under a new name (File > Save "Test for BSN" As), upload to BSN, publish to the group and retest.

So it works fine without the live text slide in the presentation.

So I thought I had this figured out.  I put the image list first and then the live text slide and it worked fine on the test player connected to BSN in the office.  I then tried scheduling that same presentation to one of the players at the customers site and it causes the player to keep crashing when it runs.  Both players are XD232 models with 6.0.25 firmware.

Try to create a new group on BSN account, publish schedule with this presentation to a new group, then move a unit to a new group.

This is the error that I get now that I made a new group and moved the player into it.  I also want to mention that there is another presentation that is scheduled to run in the morning and night to turn the display on and off for this group on BSN.  I tried removing this from the schedule to eliminate the possibility that it was causing a problem and still received the same error message.

The player Lobby - Greeter (serial number L2D54W002183) on your BrightSign Network account is reporting an error state. It reported the error when attempting to run the presentation titled Unknown.

The last time this player downloaded content was on '10/16/2015 3:29:05 PM UTC', and it most recently reported an error on '10/16/2015 3:30:10 PM UTC'. The current BrightSign Network subscription status of this player is Active.

Here are the errors that were last reported by the device:

If you can export and send your presentation, I can test it on my account/player.

Here is the exported playlist.  I also included the presentations that are scheduled in the morning and night to turn the TVs on and off

Sorry for delay. I uploaded 'Greeter-01 Sunday.bpf' presentation to my BSN account, published it to a group, added XD2 device to this group ->> it downloaded presentation and playback was ok (no errors).

If you can allocate a separate group on your BSN account, that I can use for the test, and send me your account credentials, I can investigate further.

I'd recommend you to create a support ticket in order to resolve this problem.

I set up a new group on BSN and scheduled the presentation to play on it.  After hours I moved one of the existing players to this group and it worked fine.  I then added the presentations that we have scheduled in the morning and night to control the display power (which I attached) and that is when it crashed.  I removed them and the player went back to normal.
