Can anyone translate this error message into english for me?

One of displays just started intermittently flashing a few black frames... sometimes it's a bunch black frames within 5 seconds, other times it will got for 30 seconds without any flashes of black.  I reviewed the log and saw about a thousand repeated entries of:

"BXDM_PPTSM: 6: [00.001] Overriding unsupported frame rate of 0 to default of eUnknown"

I rebooted the player but it did not help.  Here's the relevant info from the log after the reboot.  Can anyone help me understand what this means/what my issue might be?

    Have you had any luck?

Could the black frames caused by a bad HDMI connection?...

I opened a support case and they informed me that these errors were fairly generic and didn't specifically indicate an issue.  I did, in fact, find the same log entries on other players that were working, however none of them repeated the "BXDM_PPTSM: 6: [00.001] Overriding unsupported frame rate of 0 to default of eUnknown" entry at anywhere near the frequency this one does, so I would say it is likely an indicator of an issue.

To answer your question, yes it could be a bad HDMI cable.  In this case, we are using a HDMI to Cat6A convertor due to the distance (100ft) and we're working to eliminate that now by moving the player into the same enclosure as the sign.  It's an expensive "fix" but it was the only direction we had given that every other piece of equipment other than the cable has been ruled out.

Ah! HDMI extender... Those are not made equal. Some work better than others.

Would you care to share the product that is currently being used?

Could you share more info on the project? (Type of application, screen brand, etc...)

We're using a Star Tech right now.  It worked for 8 weeks without an issue.  Specifically one approved for use with our Samsung OH55 outdoor display.  Since it started failing we've also tried a Crestron as well as another brand that I cannot recall.  We've also tried using the built in receiver as well as the matching receivers for each brand of extender.  Cable has been tested and certified.  Our current thought is that there is electrical interference that may not be showing up on the testing but is ultimately interfering with the signal.

Are you forcing resolution in BrightAuthor? (As opposed to letting the player negotiate the resolution with the display over extension)

I've tried both with no luck.  Forcing a resolution other than the same one that the player negotiated resulted in a blank screen almost every time.  I was surprised by that, but I don't have a great deal of understanding around the delicate nature of resolution and refresh rates.

For whatever it worth, start by forcing refresh rate of 30fps, and see if that works.

Also, in the past we had good results with HDbaseT product from Monoprice.com.

Modestly priced, and worked flawlessly. If your monitor is of commercial grade, and can be managed over network, HDbaseT can carry both video and network, using the same CAT6.
