Will RSS Feed UPDATE INTERVAL being more frequent effect performance?

I'm curious - we have our units connect to an RSS feed. In that RSS feed I log the time and serial in a DB of when the unit checked the feed. This is my way of knowing if our units are connected to the internet (as long as I see a record every 5 minutes I know we're connected). Problem is we need to always wait 5 minutes to see the last connection time.

I JUST noticed that there is an option for checking the feed every 30 seconds instead of 5 minutes. This would allow me to keep much more frequent and therefore accurate records.

Does having this more frequent cause the unit to be more "under stress" or prematurely wear or possibly freeze?

We're using the older LS423 units.
